Malles Meje (aka Margareta Kaukonen) was a highly expressive, self-taught visual artist who married guitarist Jorma Kaukonen during the peak of the 1960s and 70s counterculture scene. They collaborated across several mediums, with photography among Jorma's favorites. Jorma processed a host of B&W images she took in New York City. He took the negative and printed it on photographically sensitive plastic in large format in his home darkroom. Her bold and surreal compositions captured the distinct psychological and aesthetic energy of that era.Â
