Malles Meje (aka Margareta Kaukonen) was a highly expressive, self-taught visual artist who married guitarist Jorma Kaukonen at the height of the 1960s and 70s counterculture scene. She moved among full-color paintings, photography, sketches, and more. Her sketches, later developed into full-scale pieces, were mostly haunting self-portraits, but she also sketched images she saw on the streets or in the people she knew.
